THE QUICK LOWDOWN

A bold yet grounded presence in the rural landscape, this home is defined by strong gabled forms, raw materiality, and a dynamic interplay of light and shadow. A palette of timber, local stone, and standing seam metal creates a house that is both contemporary and enduring, designed to settle into its surroundings and evolve with time.

WHERE THE MAGIC HAPPENS

Sited within an open rural setting, the house is shaped by the shifting light and ever-changing conditions of the landscape. The strong linear form anchors the home in place, with considered openings framing views of the surrounding land. Steel, timber, and stone are used to respond to the environment, creating a robust yet refined presence that feels at home in the landscape.

DESIGN DRIVERS

This project is a study in contrast, dark steel elements meet soft timber, and sharp geometries frame moments of openness. The material choices reflect a desire for longevity and a connection to the site, with natural stone adding weight and grounding the structure. Light plays an integral role, shifting across surfaces to create an ever-evolving interior atmosphere.

LIFE INSIDE

Interiors balance warmth and precision, with steel doors, stone detailing, and crisp white walls working together to define spaces. Light moves through the house, casting long shadows and adding depth to the architecture. The material palette enhances the experience, creating spaces that feel both solid and luminous, where natural textures and refined elements exist in equilibrium.

CHALLENGE ACCEPTED

Crafting a home that feels both strong and inviting required a careful approach to materiality and spatial composition. The balance of robust materials with soft, warm interiors allows the house to feel both protective and open. The design embraces the passage of time, with materials that will patina and evolve, ensuring the home remains as compelling decades from now as it does today.
