Revelation I

THE QUICK LOWDOWN
Perched high above the coastline, this minimalist residence is a study in restraint and refinement, where simplicity amplifies the dramatic natural surroundings. A single form and material palette wraps the home, creating a cohesive and understated aesthetic. While the exterior presents a private and enclosed presence, the north-facing facade opens completely to sweeping views of the city, ocean, and sky.

WHERE THE MAGIC HAPPENS

Designed to embrace both protection and openness, the home is carefully positioned to shield itself from prevailing winds while maximizing solar gain and panoramic views. Three elevations maintain a closed and minimal composition, reinforcing a sense of privacy and solidity. In contrast, the fully glazed northern facade dissolves into the landscape, creating an uninterrupted connection between the interior and the expansive natural outlook beyond.
The approach is deliberate and restrained, allowing the architecture to recede into the hillside rather than dominate its setting. With carefully considered proportions, the design frames rather than dictates the experience of place, encouraging a sense of immersion in the surrounding environment.

DESIGN DRIVERS

This home is an exercise in precision and clarity. A singular cladding material wraps the entire structure, enhancing its monolithic quality while ensuring durability and longevity. Every element is reduced to its essential form, with pared-back detailing emphasizing the beauty of the material rather than distracting from it.
The interplay between solidity and transparency defines the architectural language. The northern glazing is intentional and expansive, creating a seamless threshold between the built and natural environment. This contrast between enclosure and openness not only provides comfort and protection but also enhances the experience of light and shadow throughout the day.

LIFE INSIDE

The interior is designed to be calm, refined, and timeless. A restrained material palette ensures that the focus remains on the views and natural light, rather than on unnecessary ornamentation. Polished concrete floors, warm timber accents, and clean white walls establish a sense of warmth and simplicity.
At the heart of the home, the kitchen is conceived as a sculptural black cube, anchoring the space while maintaining a minimalist aesthetic. With its floating ceiling and strategic placement, the interior fosters a sense of lightness and openness, encouraging a fluid and relaxed way of living.

CHALLENGE ACCEPTED

Achieving a seamlessly minimal aesthetic required careful resolution of every junction, transition, and material connection. The challenge was not in complexity but in refining each detail to ensure that nothing felt unnecessary or forced. The result is a home that is both powerful and understated, where architecture serves as a quiet backdrop to the ever-changing natural environment.
